Great Experience
I was very pleased with my purchase. The kit went up fast and drawings readily showed me what goes where with regard to layout. Would reccomend.
Misleading sales tactics and zero customer service
- - Salesperson offered a larger building for the owed amount and a 3-day erection.
- - Slab directions were not mailed, causing wrong concrete dimensions.
Our first point of contact was the sales person over the phone with Steel Masters. We were originally calling just for quotes and specs.
However he sold us stating that had a bigger building that the sale had fallen through on and he offered it to us for the amount left owed on it. He said it was a rarity those deals come along. He had us hook line and sinker. He went on and on about how if we invited the family and some friends we could get the building erected in a 3 day weekend!
LIES, LIES AND MORE LIES. 1st ill start by saying the closer up sold us on the base plates and having the end walls painted. Then he forgot to mail us the new slab directions. In turn we poured the wrong dimensions for concrete.
He blamed it on the shipping department and the shipping department blamed him. But no one could help us with such an expensive error. Then when we went to erect the arches we had family and friends over and we rented a scissor lift for a week and we couldn't even lift 1 single arch in place with out it twisting. More money wasted.
We hired a contractor who has taken a year working on it and it's still not up. Because none of the contractors we call out for quotes specialize in quonset huts they either quote outrageous 600,000.00 or just never quote us and never get back to us. This building was meant to be our home. We are 2 years in and it's still not fully put together.
Steel Masters sell on the illusion that it's simple, quick, and cost effective when it has been nothing of the sort. Then when confronted with their own mistakes and misleading sales tactics they are aggressively defensive and have ZERO customer service.
User's recommendation: Don't use steel masters

Verified ReviewerBuilding collapse
- - -30'x30' steel Master Type S collapsed in 38 in of snow.
- - -Under warranty; they want me to pay for replacement panels.
- - -They blame snowy-area customers.
They offered me an expensive marked up solution
I have a 30'x30' steel master type s that collapsed under 38 in of snow. It is still under warranty but still Master wants me to pay more for replacement panels in the building cost when originally purchased. The blame should not go on the customer but that's basically what they did if you live in an area where it snows
User's recommendation: If you live in an area where it snows I would not purchase one.
Collapse
- - The steel Master building collapsed under 3 ft of snow.
- - Filmmaster offered inflated panels and blamed the foundation, which is square and intact.
My steel Master building collapsed under 3 ft of snow. Filmmaster said they would help me out with it but only offered to sell me replacement panels at an inflated price. And tried to blame it on my foundation which is perfectly square intact and had no impact on the building's collapse.
Bad experience
- - High-pressure sales tactics were used to close.
- - Salesperson hung up and called me a fool.
- - Contract exit requires forfeiting the down payment.
I purchased a building. That evening I realized the high pressure tactic they used to make a sale.
Should I of not purchased, absolutely however I fell for the high pressure sales tactic( my fault for sure) but when I called to cancel that's when they kicked it up a notch with the pressure. I was highly disrespected by my sales person who said she would transfer me to customer service then she hung up on me. Hours later when I was called back again I was disrespected and basically called I fool for signing the contract.
If steel master has such faith in their products there would be no reason to use high pressure sales tactics and refuse to let out of the contract without forfeiting down payment. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY
User's recommendation: Before you sign anything have a attorney review and don't fall for this price is only good for 1 day
Water Drainage Issues
- - Hut sits on conex shipping containers.
- - Rain and snow melt puddles stay at sill-mount roof panels.
- - Inside mounts design is terrible.
Hut sitting on conex shipping containers. Level and Square.
Rain - snow melt puddles and stays at sill mount panels on conex roof edge.
- inside mounts- design. Terrible Design.!!!Common sense should have thought thru better - However No serious recommendations from sales representative / nor Elizabeth on her follow up.
User's recommendation: Do not level , tilt conex to shed water off away . Or plan outside mount design
I have been duped with dishonest customer service
- - I signed a contract but the building was not the one discussed for two weeks.
- - If no full refund, I may pursue a class action via this page.
I signed a contract and then found out it is not the building we had been discussing for 2 weeks. If I don't get a full refund I will be coming back to this page to see if anyone else is interested in doing a class action suit.
User's recommendation: Best for you to ask alot of questions and don't assume anything.
Steelmasters instructions
- - Tech support is condescending about unmarked blueprints.
- - Sales staff are aggressive and threaten.
- - Cost rose to about $50,000 due to add-ons.
The tech support act like you're supposed to know everything that they know and know how to read their blueprints which are different than regular blueprints. They're Hasty and how they explain it to you and make you seem stupid that you can't understand what they know which they deal with everyday.
Their sales staff is aggressive. They make threats. + Personally I would never buy one again and I'm not even done building it. I can't figure out the end walls.
They have no instructions that are to the caliber of a homeowner building his own. It's just not been a good experience for me. It's quality material but they're not marked. The pieces are not marked as to how they go together and they don't have good instructions.
Making it a living *** trying to put it together and they don't care about your Town 's requirements. A $29,000 Quonset hut ended up costing me $50,000 after all the little additives that they throw in there that they say you have to have.
If you're going to live in it. You better want just a metal garage if they have a sales price cuz that's all you're going to get for that cost and even that's over the cost of what everybody else is.
User's recommendation: Don't try and build it yourself unless you're a mechanical engineer
Horrible customer service
- - The S Model hut was claimed easy to assemble, but plans and foundation were wrong.
- - No compensation and no support lines after a year without setup.
We ordered the S Model hut and we were told how easy they are to assemble. They said my husband and I could build it ourselves in a weekend.
Long story short that was a lie. They sent us the wrong plans first of all and we poured the wrong size foundation. They wouldn't compensate anything for their big mistake. It's been a year and we still Don't have it up yet.
There are no help lines.
When we have had questions they make us feel like idiots because it's so "simple" we have been left to watching you tube videos which aren't that great (but still more help than steel masters), due to different variables. Ex lay of land, trough vs plates, size, ect.
User's recommendation: I would be hesitatent unless you're an engineer
Just another lousy experience
- - Bought a Quonset 30x50.
- - Overpayment is suspected based on reviews.
- - Delivery is quick but post-sale service is lacking; reviewer suggests suing.
Bought my Quonset 30x50. Im guessing I way overpayed based on the reviews.
Theyll sell it and get it to you quick, but after that its nothing.
Its a pretty slimy example of the current state of the economy. We should all sue.
User's recommendation: Idea is cool, but company is a depressing, greedy company that preys on the rural class.

Verified ReviewerTerrible Experience with SteelMaster
- - Unresolved complaints with the Virginia AG and BBB before doing business.
- - They promised world-class service before the sale, but after signing they refuse refunds.
Wish I had read the numerous unresolved complaints for SteelMaster with the Virginia Office of the Attorney General and Better Business Bureau before doing business with SteelMaster. My experience with this company has been AWFUL!!
They went on and on about offering "world class customer service." Well, that was BEFORE my order. Since then, they have made it clear to me: SteelMaster is ONLY interested in making the sale. If one chooses to do business with SteelMaster, PLEASE READ EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THE FINE PRINT. My salesperson failed to inform me and misinformed me regarding crucial aspects of my project.
After signing the contract, rather than resolve my concerns, SteelMaster referred me to the legalize of my contract and refuses to do the right thing. Regardless of what SteelMaster says verbally, if one has unresolvable problems as a result of this merchant, SteelMaster will adamantly refuse any refunds, regardless of how legitimate the concern or complaint.
Lesson Learned. Never again!!
- Cancellation and policy is terrible and non-existent
- Dishonest sales
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerStole our money
- - Moved to Montana seeking a workshop; ordered a Quonset steel workshop from Steel Master, faced delays, upsell pressure, cancellation, and no refund.
March, my boyfriend and I moved to Montana, seeking a home with workshop. We found steel master online, order a quonset steel workshop and things were very delayed and they kept pushing us to order more and spend more.
I paid over 6k , the sale of home fell through, canceled building delivery and order, they claimed it was too late and they would not refund our money. It's been months and they have not refunded my money.
I'd like to begin a class action lawsuit or sue for a refund. We rightfully deserve our money back.
- Kept my money
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE
Protect other consumers
- - Sales staff misrepresented calculation books and freight charges.
- - They have held over $9,000 for 18 months and offered a partial refund.
Here is our BBB complaint: We are a farm located in San Diego County California. We purchased SteelMaste Q30 and Q40, end walls and doors, etc.
in June of 2020. In that transaction several misrepresentations were made to us by sales staff regarding calculation books, freight charges, etc. We also ordered insulation in July 2020 but did not take immediate delivery due to a protracted permit period (common here in California). The inspector informed us that the insulation was not acceptable due to fire sprinkler code compliance.
SteelMaster started pressuring us to take delivery of the insulation in spite of the fact that when we spoke with the insulation vendor directly they said the delay was no problem. We contacted Mr. Jim ********* at and explained our situation and requested a refund of the ****** we had already paid for the insulation. Despite having spent over **** dollars with SteelMaster via deposits and prompt payments he refused.
We tried to work with them. Since the insulation was of no use to us we asked the ****** be applied to the purchase of one their S-10 models. We were told it was no longer available and then we began an extended impass with them (they have held our money now for 18 months). On 12-14-2021 we received an email from Jennifer ***** telling us that now an S-10 building was available "at a deeply reduced owner's pricing with free delivery on the next available load" We were thrilled at this development and told her we would take it.
It was less that the ****** of our money they are holding but we said we would go ahead and take the balance in insulation which we can't use just to close this matter. We thought all was proceeding as agreed until we received an email from Mr. Ryan ***** at 8:00 a.m. on the New Years Eve holiday stating they would not provide the S-10 they promised and that we had to take the useless insulation originally ordered in July of 2020 by 1- 31-**** or we would "forfeit" our ******* They don't reply to our calls or emails.
They took or calls after our BBB complaint.
Here is our response afterwards to the BBB:
Their responses were completely unsatisfactory. They said we agreed to a forfeiture clause. When we asked to show us the clause in the agreement they couldn't (because it doesn't exist). They said their sales representative who promised us the S-10 model wasn't authorized to do so and that they sold it to someone else because they have 30 people in sales, etc.
They have been holding over $9,000 of our money for 18 months. They offered us a partial refund of ****** saying they were keeping the rest to "cover their costs". When we asked them to explain those costs they wouldn't and made additional mis-representations regarding the 3rd party insulation company. Apparently they can get away with these practices in Virginia.
Here in California they would be in breach of contract, in violation of false promises fraud, etc. If they were in California we would litigate and refer them to state agencies.
Given the distance and the amount of time this has dragged on we reluctantly accepted their proposal so in the end they steal thousands from us. A terrible company that should be investigated by the appropriate state agencies in Virginia.

Bought a carport. Went up beautiful.
Installed it alone, except for digging the piers. The key was laying out the foundation precisely.

Hello, Came across your comment review and thought I would reach out. Seems I have a depsoit for a specific snow load rated building and have not received the plans as contracted for its been two months.
Now They are , my sales person and one other contact are not responding. Any advise, Should I demand a refund of the deposit?
Seems like maybe this is what they want due to teh sales team overstaying the engineered loads and now the engineers can not calculate the correct plans. Peter 530 412-****
